Squash: Walden ladies beat Melbourne

PUBLISHED: 11:43 03 December 2010

WALDEN ladies already had a head start in their fixture against Melbourne after one of the visitors’ players failed to make her match due to the snow.

However, awesome foursome, Sam Pluck, Kelly Wong, Debbie Thain and Julia Dolman proved that they didn’t need a walkover by thrashing their rivals 4-1 at the Lord Butler Leisure Centre.

Fifth player Maggy Dixon was the beneficiary of the non-starter.

Number one Dolman was slightly out of sorts and lost the first match 3-1, however Pluck, Wong and Thain all produced impressive displays to seal the overall win.

Team captain Wong said: “Our number one laboured under the effects of a chest infection and the match proved beyond her reduced capacity, yet we must applaud her tenacity and she hopes to reverse this result at the next encounter.

“Sam, our number two, played well, outclassing her opponent on the night. Kelly and Debbie proved to be too much for their opponents and so the team celebrating a good victory”.
