WALDEN’S ladies returned to action after a long Christmas hiatus and strode fourth once more to do battle with close rivals Comberton.

Wielding their rackets the hosts got stuck in and came away with a 5-0 win they were delighted with.

Julia Dolman, Sam Pluck, Debbie Thain, Maggy Dixon and Kelly Wong all won their individual matches.

Speaking after the fixture on Jan 18, team captain Wong said: “Eager and rested we viewed the fracas with our old opponents Comberton with relish. For as CS Lewis once said, a noble friend is the best thing and a noble enemy the next best.

“The team acquitted themselves with honour. Having dropped the first game our number one girded her loins and won the remaining engagements.

“Our number two followed the same path. The number four player, despite suffering the symptoms of arrhythmia, held onto victory whilst dropping two games.

“We salute our gallant opponents, yet this is a victory we will savour, one that helped drive the winter chill away.”
