THE Airportmen continued their impressive run of form in the Essex Senior League Cup as two goals in the first half hour gave them victory in the quarter-final first leg.

A good start from the home side saw them putting the east London team under pressure, and they were rewarded after ten minutes when a good move ended with Danny Demetriou firing home.

The hosts continued to dominate the game, and they doubled their lead in the 25th minute when a goalmouth scramble ended with Jack Dallender poking the ball home.

During the build up to the goal, Barkingside keeper Paul Daley fell awkwardly on his shoulder, and that proved to be the last action he saw as he was carried off and replaced by the visitors assistant John Doyle.

Daley clearly must be having nightmares about facing Stansted again, having been sent off when the teams met earlier this month, and is likely to miss the second leg on December 13 due to suspension.

The injury seemed to rally the visitors, and they grabbed a lifeline in the 44th minute when Brad Jones sent a diving header into the net after Chris Lewis' effort had been blocked.

* THE Airportmen are in action at Hargrave Park again on Saturday when high-flying Southend Manor are the visitors in the Essex Senior League.

Manor go into the game in third spot with 23 points from ten games, but went down 2-1 in the first league of the Essex Senior League Cup quarter-final on Saturday.
