Striders’ Taylor warms up for 145-mile mega run at Kevin Henry 5K Summer Series

This week saw the second league race of the Kevin Henry 5K Summer Series where Saffron Walden compete with Ely, Newmarket, Haverhill and Cambridge.

First over the line for Walden was Steven McNicolas who managed a whopping 17 minutes 55 seconds, closely followed by Ian Macdougal in second.

Baz Taylor, Tim McMahon and Alan Jones also finished sub-20 minutes while Rebecca White was first Strider in the ladies’ race with another 19 minute 5K, shortly followed by Fiona Halls, Janet Lipski and Cindy Drinnan.

Elsewhere over the weekend Stefanie Godfrey was second lady overall at the Wimpole 10K.

Down in sunny Lanzarote Roger Curbelo completed the Ironman competition in which he managed a staggering 100-mile bike ride, 3km open water swim followed by a 26.2 mile road marathon.

This week see’s Taylor taking part in the Grand Union Canal race from Birmingham to London, a 145-mile event of non-stop running.
