Striders trio take on Grunty Fen

Three Saffron Striders took on the challenge of one of East Anglia’s biggest half marathons.

Tim McMahon, Robert Shaw and Mark Starte were among 529 runners at the annual Grunty Fen Half Marathon, held near Ely.

The 13.1 mile race follows a mostly flat course, and Tim was the first Strider to cross the finishing time, in an excellent 1hr 36mins 30secs, to claim 93rd place. next home was Robert in 2hrs 6mins 55secs,closely followed by Mark, who completed his first ever half marathon in a commendable 2hrs 10mins 48secs for 437th.

Meanwhile over a shorter distance, George Alexander set a new personal best in the Shelford 5K, finishing the race in a superb 6th out of 327 competitors in a blistering 17mins 29secs.
