The Oaks, part of Newport Croquet Club, prevailed over club rivals, the Elms, in the opening match of the Golf Croquet League competition on Friday.

The fine weather and the intense, but friendly, competition between the two teams resulted in the Oaks winning the singles with the two doubles games being drawn, giving Oaks the overall win.

The club are preparing for National Croquet Day.

Newport is inviting the public to come along any time between 10am-5pm to enjoy a game.

Croquet is a fun game for all the family, so there will be a variety of games involving hitting a ball with a mallet as well as exhibitions of how both Golf and Association Croquet are played.

The club is situated at the end of Frambury Lane in Newport, CB11 3PU.
