Three records for Striders at St Neot’s Half Marathon

A TRIO of Saffron Striders returned from the St Neot’s Half Marathon with a hat-trick of personal bests after an incredible morning of running
Gemma Thake, Al Cooke and Simon Ede all smashed their targets over the 13-mile race, which attracted close to 1,000 runners.
Braving cold conditions, the Striders took on the undulating route through countryside close to the Cambridgeshire town and recorded their best-ever half marathon times, with all three runners finishing comfortably under two hours and one even breaking though the 1hr 45mins barrier.
Thake’s 1hr 42mins run demonstrated once again her superb current form and made her the first Saffron Strider to finish the race.
Just four minutes behind was Cooke whose 1hr 46mins finishing time was an amazing six minutes faster than his time at St Neots in 2010 and two minutes quicker than his previous best half marathon performance..
Ede also ran the St Neots race for the second year in a row and knocked two minutes off his 2010 time, setting an excellent new personal best of 1hr 54mins.
• New runners of any ability are always welcome at the Saffron Striders. Meet at the Lord Butler Leisure centre on Tuesdays at 8pm for a group run.
