Saffron Walden’s Tom Blomqvist had a difficult weekend at the Lausitzring, Germany for rounds five and six of the 2016 DTM Masters season as a series of problems left him well off the pace.

Blomqvist, driving the Ice-Watch BMW M4 DTM for team RBM, made a good start in free practice, finding himself the best placed BMW driver in the session where he finished 13th.

Struggling to find rhythm for qualifying and then the opening race on Saturday, he finished 22nd after starting 19th on the grid.

Sunday saw an improvement as Blomqvist, starting round six in 10th, managed to hold position but a series of issues left him unable to close on the pacesetters.

He narrowly missed out on the points, finishing 11th.

Blomqvist said: “It was a difficult weekend. This time we did not have the necessary pace over the race distance.

“Yesterday’s (Saturday) race was tough. Today (Sunday) was better, but I don’t think we could have done a lot more.

“I had problems with my tyres in my first stint. It was better after the pit stop, but by then it was too late.”

Blomqvist, pictured below, next takes to the track for the DTM series on June 24-26 at the Norisring, Germany.
