WaldenTRI club captain Lou Rolfe secured an impressive victory at the Big East middle distance triathlon.

Five WaldenTRI members took part in the event at Bradwell-On-Sea, held in appalling conditions and consisting a 1.2km sea swim, 82km cycle and a half marathon run.

Rolfe finished 19th overall out of 120 competitors. The sea was so rough and cold it was shortened for safety reasons. Rolfe exited the water in third place and overtook both other ladies and most of the men too on the bike, battling against a headwind. Once into the run – offroad in knee-long wet grass, into the headwind – she managed to hold onto her position despite cramps in both calves, to record a fine victory.

Jeremy Buss (5hrs 2mins 58secs) had a superb run to claw back many places and finished 16th in his age group, and Teresa Peasgood (5hrs 34mins 58secs) achieved an impressive 8th place in her category, despite having to stop and fix a puncture.

In the Olympic distance race, Simon Page (2hrs 13mins 51secs) continued his superb form this season with his best result ever, 7th overall, and third place podium position in his age group.
