A LARGE contingent of away supporters turned up at The Lawn on Saturday to watch an impressive Fulbourn side comfortably beat United.

The Kershaw Premier League leaders made short work of a slightly depleted United squad that remain eighth despite dropping three points.

Second highest scorer Martin Turner was left on the bench after missing the previous week due to suspension and once again Toby Dawson who provided three assists last time out got a start in attack.

The 75 or so fans that lined the pitchside saw the home side have a mixed start. Top striker Matt Bell tested the keeper with a low drive and Mark Johnston twice beat his marker only to shoot wide.

At the other end Fulbourn missed some great opportunities to take the lead and United goalkeeper Sam Tomlinson had to be at his best to keep the visitors out.

As the game settled down the visitors shaded the possession stakes and were testing United’s back five with a series of crosses both from open play and dead balls.

Some were dealt with competently and others were scrambled away. However it was danger Matt Lilley who put the table-toppers ahead just before half time following a lightning counter-attack.

The second half was very even with the home side enjoying more possession but the visitors looking more dangerous on the break.

But it was no great surprise to the outnumbered home supporters when the ball found its way into the back of the net mid-way through the second half to put the game beyond doubt.
