Saffron Walden Hockey Club’s ladies’ 1sts moved three points closer to survival in East League Premier Division with a 2-1 win over fellow strugglers Broxbourne on Saturday.
They lost to 4-2 to league leaders Cambridge City on Sunday.
Walden have six games left to retain their place in the division for next season. With the bottom four at the end of the campaign dropping down a league, Walden are currently second from bottom and four points adrift of safety.
They will need to build on Saturday’s win, and forget Sunday’s loss, if they are to survive, especially with five of their remaining games coming against top six sides.
This Saturday they travel to Canterbury 2nds. The first meeting between the teams ended in a 2-2 stalemate.
