Saffron Walden Golf Club scratch team produced an impressive display to beat Ramsey 5-1 in the latest round of CAGU Division One matches.

In a match which could have been a banana skin for the Walden boys, they went out fighting.

Up first for Walden, Tom Duggan and Ryan Adair started with a birdie but were soon three holes down. Adair’s short game and Duggan’s drive off the tee turned the game in Walden’s favour as they overturned to deficit to win 1up.

Mark Reeve and Olly Tuck trounced the next Ramsey pairing, winning 5up after a round including three birdies and an eagle. It has been an outstanding week for Reeve, who won the Old Fold Manor mid-am golf tournament and topped the UK mid-am golf tour order of merit.

Finally, Richard Southall and Cam Brown were 1up but two double bogeys cost them and they eventually halved their match.

Captain Graham Goodman said :“ We showed our fighting spirit and dug deep to gain an away victory. We got the order spot on so we will do our best to close the gap to Brampton Park next week away at St Ives.”
