Saffron Walden Hockey Club’s ladies’ 1sts need to win their final game of the season to stand any chance of avoiding relegation from the East League Premier Division.

The ladies lost twice at the weekend, 5-0 to West Herts and 5-1 to Bromley and Beckenham, to take their bid for survival down to the last day of the season.

With two teams going down, Walden occupy the second spot, ahead of Ipswich 2nds, and one point behind Wapping.

A win on Saturday at Harleston Magpies 2nds still might not be enough; if Wapping beat Canterbury 2nds, another of the league’s struggling sides, then Walden will be relegated.

The men’s 1sts’ season is meandering to a close. They sit fourth in the East League Premier B, having securing another year in the division.

The men have two games left, at home to Letchworth on Saturday and away at Harleston Magpies 2nds to following weekend.
