Saffron Walden U12 beat Wenden by nine runs in their CYA League opener.

Walden won the toss and elected to bat. Openers Benedict Hannam and Josh Webb got them off to a good start before latter was out, caught at mid-on.

The captain was joined by Connor Webb and the pair put on over 70 before Hannam was out in the penultimate over for an excellent knock of 28. Connor Webb finished unbeaten on 35 to set Wenden a target of 99.

Wenden got off to a slow start due to some excellent bowling by Dan Batcheler, Alex Haupt and Josh Webb which kept the opposition behind the required run rate as Walden won by nine runs

“It was an excellent all-round performance from the boys, their bowling and fielding was excellent and they showed true team spirit to ensure the win,” said manager Martyn Webb.
