Saffron Walden Rugby Club’s U13s won the Cambridgeshire County Cup after beating Peterborough under the floodlights at Shelford.
Tries from Jarno Longaretti, Max Skingsley and John Williams, along with a number of conversions from Harry Underwood and Tom Lawson, led to a 51-3 victory. A valiant Peterborough team kept battling but were outplayed by a strong team performance from the entire Saffron Walden team.
The forwards performed well in the set plays while the backs gave a fine display of ball handling on the attack, and faultless tackling in defence. In the four games they played, the team scored over 170 points, while only conceding 15.
The cup win continued the team’s unbeaten season, and means that they go on to represent Cambridgeshire in the Eastern Counties Cup Winners tournament.
Alex Albright was nominated by the referee as man of the match for an outstanding performance. Captain Jarno Longaretti received the trophy from Alasdair Bouvaird from SWRFC and Cambs RFU.
