Walden Velo Cycling Club are gearing up for their two flagship events next month.

Velo are running the fourth annual Walden 101 sportive for road riders, while for mountain bikers the club will be hosting round five of the Eastern region Mud, Sweat and Gears series with both taking place on Sunday, July 3.

Both will commence at Carver Barracks, whose 33 and 101 regiment injured soldiers’ charity will be supported by both events.

In the Walden 101, riders can choose to participate in either the 50 mile, 75 mile or iconic 101 mile routes.

Chip timing will be used for all riders who have previously signed up for the event before the day with times text to the cyclists on completion.

There is at least one feed station per route.

The riders will navigate through some of the prettiest villages in the area, through countryside and challenging hills, returning to Carver Barracks for barbecue food and drink which is included in the entry fee.

Start times are staggered from 8-9am, with signing on from 7:30am.

All riders must be over 18 years. Online entry is available until June 30 at £26, or £30 on the day. Enter online at www.britishcycling.org.uk/events/details/140763/101-Sportive

If you’re more attracted to the off-road side of cycling, the Eastern region MTB cross-country series is back for its ninth consecutive year.

It consists of 10 rounds at venues dotted around the region.

Racing consists of a predetermined number of laps of between three-and-a-half and four miles per lap.

The course runs over a range of challenges and technical obstacles, elevations and trail types.

There are 11 different age and ability categories setting off at staggered start times.

The racing lasts approximately 45 minutes to an hour for under 18s and one-and-a-half hours for adult categories.

The winners are those that complete the number of laps in the quickest time.

When the first rider finishes, all riders from all categories finish at the end of their current lap.

There is a coaching session for U9s (for up to 35 riders) from 10-11:30am.

The entry fee varies according to which category the rider enters, ranging from £12-£30, with a discount for advance entry.
