MANY sporting fixtures were called off due to the bad weather at the weekend – but WaldenTRI athletes battled through to pedal their way to some excellent individual performances in the Winter Series.

In round three Sue McKintyre came fifth in the ladies section, and Andrew Riley achieved a season’s best place of 39th in the veterans two hour races.

His son Callum, who had been ill in the run up to the two hour race, came in the top third of the field.

An exciting battle took place in the men’s four hour race where Liam Brooks and Paul Whiffen were joined by Liam’s brother Spencer.

After more than four hours, all three finished one after the other and within 50 seconds of each other. Liam took the honours 10th overall in 4hrs 22mins 10secs, next Brooks in 4h 22m 33s, then Spencer in 4h 22m 59s.
