Two WaldenTRI stars were on the podium at the Age Group ITU 2014 Sprint Duathlon World Championships.
Charlie Passfield and Craig Dyce ventured to Pontevedra, nort-west Spain, at the weekend, having both qualified for the event.
Sixteen-year-old Passfield grabbed his first international opportunity with both hands by winning a silver medal in the 16-19 category.
Dyce added a bronze medal in the 44-49 category, continuing an impressive medal winning sequence over the past two years adding to his previous three medals.
The duathlon sprint includes two runs (5km and 2.5km) sandwiched around a 19km bike ride.
Passfield’s initial run was no more than average on the interesting but narrow streets of the attractive Galician City. However, his light frame and strong uphill cycling ability soon allowed him to overtake many competitors, to set himself up with a strong run to finish.
The experienced Dyce was consistent throughout, running and cycling at a good pace to achieve his fourth podium finish and marginally pip Passfield in his overall time.
Unfortunately, Passfield only had a short time to celebrate before having to return to the UK for a Chemistry exam at County High on the Tuesday.
