Three members of WaldenTRI have qualified for the GB Age Group Team to compete in the European Sprint Distance Duathlon Championships in Spain next week.

The event, which will comprise a 5k run, a 20k cycle, followed by a second run of 2.5k, is to be held in Alcobendas, near Madrid.

At 17, Charlie Passfield is the youngest member of the three, but he already has experience of international events, having won the silver medal at the World Duathlon Championships last year. He is supported by John Archer and Walden Velo, and has hopes of another podium finish.

Michael Buchallet will be competing in the 40-44 age group. He is backed by local coffee shop Bicicletta, and Chesterford Reseach Park’s fitness centre. Like Passfield, he qualified for this event at the Althorp duathlon.

Pete Thompson, sponsored by Ford Wells Construction, will be competing in the 55-59 age group. Thompson received automatic qualification for these championships due to being third man home for the GB team at last year’s European Championships.

To have three athletes from the club competing at these championships is a major success for WaldenTRI, and all three will be giving their all for the honour of club and country.
