First up in our preview of the young Uttlesford musicians playing at the Blues & Rock Weekender are Room C.

Who are they?

A group of 15-year-old friends who go to Saffron Walden County High School, the band is made up of:

Ryan Deamer – lead vocals

Tommy Villiers – guitar

Harry Pearce – bass

Oscar Richards – drums

Influences

Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stevie Wonder and The Kooks.

Ryan: “I’ve loved the Red Hot Chili Peppers ever since I heard my dad listening to them.”

What will they be playing?

Harry: “We’re writing our own stuff at the moment but at this gig we’ll be playing some Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Kooks and Stevie Wonder.”

Tommy: “It’s been both challenging and fun.”

Oscar: “We’ve been recording music at Tommy’s house. We’re building a studio there and it’s nearly finished.”

How long has the band been together?

Ryan: “About four months as a band but we’ve been friends for a while. Tommy and Oscar have been playing for three or four years, and then they got Harry to play bass.”

Oscar: “We got asked to play at a gig and I said we had a singer when we didn’t. We were just an instrumental at that point. We asked Ryan if he’d sing for us and he said ‘yes’.”

How many gigs have they played?

Harry: “We played at Saffron Walden’s Got Talent in July and have done about six gigs so far. Including this weekend, we’ve got three more gigs coming up this month.”

Oscar: “We’ve been booked to play at the Stortford Music Festival next May.”

What can the audience expect on Friday night?

Tommy: “This will be the biggest gig we’ve done so far. It’s going to be explosive in terms of solos and a really lively set with lots of jumping around – particularly by Ryan. It feels good that Dennis [Stratton, former lead guitarist for Iron Maiden] is going to be watching, too, so we’ll have to impress him.”

Harry: “It’s going to be energetic with a rock funk vibe.”

Oscar: “It’s big for us and we’re really looking forward to it. It’s great that it’s for a good cause, too.”

Room C will be taking to the stage at 7.45pm on Friday evening. To get your tickets visit Saffron Walden Tourist Information Centre, call 01799 524002, or pop into Wayletts of Thaxted. Tickets are also available online from the-trumpet.co.uk.
