IF the snow has now melted away to the delight of all except perhaps the more excitable fans of sledging, it certainly hasn’t taken with it the community’s appreciation of the blossoming art of photographer and painter, Megan Ridgewell.

Readers might recall that Megan’s snow scene of Saffron Walden Common kept staff at the town’s Tourist Information Centre very busy in the run-up to the festive season, and beyond, with record sales.

Megan’s re-acquaintance with the paintbrush after 20 years absence has now taken on an entirely different hue. She revisits the common, but spring has arrived at last in her latest painting, entitled Springtime on the Common.

Rachel Thomas, TIC duty manager, said: “We are delighted to showcase Megan’s latest work, and more delighted still that once again, she has managed to capture the essence of the town’s favourite green space, and the vital role it plays in the recreation and relaxation of the community.

“It might be the profusion of daffodils, it might be the magic for passers-by of trying to recognise the colourful characters depicted going about their business and pleasure, but whatever it is, once again, the painting is proving a major talking point.

“The other day I saw half a dozen people, of all ages, gathered at the window studying the picture, pointing, chatting and smiling. It is giving people great pleasure.”

Mounted and framed prints are available for sale at the TIC (01799 524002). Contact Megan on 01799 523833 or megan@ridgewell.net regarding the original painting or commissions.
