Supermarine spitfire IX MH434 is set to celebrate its 70th anniversary this year.

The iconic spitfire proudly parades its unmistakeable Merlin engine made in the golden age of motoring at the Duxford event; Spitfires, Merlins and Motors on Sunday, July 28. Catch a close up of these historic spitfires between 10am-1.30pm. Then until 3.30pm it is fun for all the family with ‘Air Space’, fun WW1 camouflage activities, and Airfix Make and Paint, where anyone can paint their own Airfix model and take it home as their special souvenir of the day.

Also don’t miss the new exhibition, Historic Duxford which is now open to the public. MH434 has been based at Duxford longer than any other spitfire and was built in 1943 at Vickers in Castle Bromwich.

This magnificent plane was even air tested by the legendary Alex Henshaw, chief test pilot for the Supermarine Company at Castle Bromwich. During the Second World War the plane was assigned to Sergeant Alfred Burge, who said: “MH343 was the best spitfire ever. It was my MH343, the perfect spitfire”. There is also the chance to sit in the spitfire for £15 per person, including a souvenir t-shirt and photo.

Many more events are on offer including a Battle of Britain exhibition and a RAF ground crew interactive display. Prices are £17.50 for adults, £14.00 for concessions, £12.25 for the disabled senior/student and children under 16 free.
