ARE you tired of serving the same meals every Christmas? Would you like to produce Christmas dishes with a twist but are in need of inspiration?

Christmas at Audley End

Well, why not visit Audley End House and Gardens in December for its ‘Mrs Crocombe prepares for Christmas’ events as Audley End’s resident cook demonstrates delicious Victorian Christmas treats, which are sure to delight and inspire.

Audley End’s kitchens will be in full swing every weekend during December as Mrs Crocombe and her dairy maids whip up festive delicacies, such as real mincemeat, Christmas puddings and the piece de resistance for any self-respecting Victorian aristocrat’s table – a stuffed boar’s head!

- On December 4 and 5, 11am – 2pm, Mrs Crocombe will be demonstrating dishes made from mincemeat and will show how to make several varieties of mincemeat, mincemeat tarts and also decoration.

- On December 12 and 13, 11am – 2pm, visitors can pick up tips as she demonstrates numerous variations of Christmas puddings, including the celebrated Nesselrode Pudding, an ice pudding made with fresh fruit.

- On December 18 and 19, 11am – 2pm, she will be demonstrating how to stuff and decorate a traditional boar’s head – a real sight to behold.

Following watching the demonstrations, visitors will be able to take away with them a series of recipe cards so that they can try their hand at preparing the dishes at home.

Events Manager at Audley End Lucy Hutchings said: “The costumed, cookery demonstration events are always popular as they encourage and inspire visitors to try their hand at making something different.

“Children will also be able to take part in our fun festive trail around the grounds and win prizes. The December sessions will be great fun for all the family and really will help visitors get into the Christmas spirit.”

Whilst the main house will be closed over the Christmas period, visitors can experience the fascinating Victorian Service Wing, which will be brought to life as costumed interpreters carry out their daily tasks.
