The judges have made their decision and the acts who will appear at the Blues and Rock Weekender in Saffron Walden are ...

Room C, Dave Vant, Too Cool Kid, Mortal Tides, The Hooligans, Blind Summit and Shaun Colwill.

In the same week The X Factor returned to Britain’s TV screens a judging panel came to a decision on who the support acts would be for a concert featuring the popular The Blues Brothers Rhythm & Blues Revue Band and Remus Down Boulevard, a group which includes former Iron Maiden guitarist Dennis Stratton.

Last month the Reporter teamed up with the organisers in an attempt to unearth the best young musical talent in the Saffron Walden area to play at the double-header gig, at Saffron Walden Cricket Club this Friday and Saturday.

Money raised will go towards the cricket club’s youth academy and the Ethan Rees Linwood Memorial Fund. Set up by Ethan’s family following the 11-year-old’s death in a car accident in 2012, the charity aims to raise the aspirations of young people in the Uttlesford area.

It had been planned to have one support act on each night but such was the level of response and high standard that the judges found it difficult to choose.

Glyn Banks, Jamie Spencer and Dennis Stratton were overwhelmed with the volume of entries and after discussion with the organisers it was agreed six of the acts would play over two nights to honour the spirit of the Ethan Rees Linwood Memorial Fund.

• Throughout today and tomorrow we will preview the band and musicians who will be playing so keep checking back to the Reporter’s website.
