Newport: Revellers gear up for Latin party

PUBLISHED: 13:10 13 April 2012

DO you like Latin American music? Then dust off your dancing shoes and get ready to dance to fun, exhilarating and contagious Salsa, Merengue, Samba, Calypso, Cumbia and Reggaeton, just to name a few of the best known Latin rhythms.

Zumba fitness instructors Luisa Curbelo from Saffron Walden and her friend Adriana Potts, who both hail from Venezuela, were determined to bring the music and flavours of their beloved Latin America to the area – so they organised a party at Newport Village Hall.

“We want people to embrace our culture through our music and to have fun and get to know more about our Latin American musical heritage,” said Mrs Curbelo.

The powerful voice of premier Cuban singer Yaime Diaz Ventura will accompany the best of Cuban and Latin American music, while there will also be a dance show, DJ, games, raffles and a bar.

The friends have pledged to donate 10 per cent of the proceeds from ticket sales to charity, equally divided between Breast Cancer Research and Isabel Hospice.

Now in its second year, the Latin Party takes place on Saturday April 21 from 7.30pm. Tickets cost £12 in advance or £15 on the door and include a welcome drink and raffle draw. Dress code is smart casual. For more information, call Mrs Curbelo on 07842 213554.
