Alexander McCall Smith joins forces with the BBC Symphony Orchestra to bring to life much-loved characters from Botswana, Scotland and Italy.

Alexander McCall Smith will be at Saffron Hall on Sunday, April 28 with the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
The author of the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series joins forces with the musicians to bring to life much-loved characters from Botswana, Scotland and Italy with an eclectic collection of his favourite music.

The concert will be recorded for broadcast on BBC Radio 3.

The programme includes Rossini’s Overture to An Italian Girl in Algiers, Respighi’s The Dove from The Birds and The Birth of Venus, from the Three Botticelli Pictures, Maxwell Davies’ Farewell to Stromness, Walton’s Touch her Soft Lips and Part from the incidental music to Henry V, Mozart’s overture to The Marriage of Figaro, Malcolm Arnold’s Scottish Dance No 1 and John Barry’s The Music of Goodbye (Love theme) from the score to the film Out of Africa.
